Women's Basketball Ties Program Win Record

(Ankeny, IA) - Faith women's basketball finished the week 3-0, reaching two milestones in the process.

The Eagles played two MCCC games, starting out against Barclay on Friday. The two teams faced each other in December with Faith coming out on top, 83-43. Prior to the game, the Eagles celebrated their two seniors, Mikayla Jones and Whitney Wacker.

The Eagles started out a step slow with a couple of turnovers/missed layups right away, which allowed the Bears to jump to a 4-2 lead after the first couple of minutes. That would be the closest the game would ever get, as the Eagles sprinted to a 22-8 lead after the first ten minutes, and eventually took an 18 point lead into halftime. The Bears would not roll over though, and they came out and challenged Faith for every bucket in the second half. The Eagles handled the pressure and kept their lead, running away with the 86-59 victory.

Mikayla Jones connected on 8 threes, scoring 32 points on the night, with Katie Costello adding 25 of her own.

Saturday saw the Eagles face off against Manhattan in a rematch from the early season 73-51 victory for Faith.

The Thunder have been playing some of their best basketball of the season, coming into the game on a five game win streak, so the Eagles knew they had to take care of business early in the game. The first several minutes of the game saw both teams struggle to connect on scoring opportunities. Both teams battled back and forth until Faith put together a small run in the last four minutes to end the first quarter up 19-13. The Eagles continued to build their lead, going into halftime up 36-23.

The Eagles came out on fire in the third quarter, building their lead to twenty points, and eventually charged to their third win of the week, 77-46 over Manhattan. Katie Costello led all scoring with 30 points, followed by 16 from Mikayla Jones, and Miriam Beenken recorded 9 points, 10 rebounds, 6 steals, and 4 assists on the night.

With the win over Manhattan, the Eagles tied their program record for wins in a season with 22, and Coach Zak Kirman recorded his 50th career win as head coach of the Faith Eagles.
