
Women's Basketball Falls in Top Ten Clash
(Ankeny, IA) - Faith women's basketball led by as many as 10 points in Friday's matchup against #3 Ozark Christian
Fans packed the stands on Friday and provided an electric atmosphere fitting for the matchup between #7 ranked Faith Baptist Bible College and #3 ranked Ozark Christian College.
Both teams came out firing, matching the other's blows and trading baskets through the entire first quarter, with Ozark coming out on top 17-15 after ten minutes. Faith, however controlled the tempo, coming out on an 18-6 run and taking a ten point lead with 3 minutes to go in the first half. Although the Ambassadors made a push to tighten the score, the Eagles took a 2 point lead into halftime, 35-33.
The third quarter looked similar, while neither team could break open the game and the Eagles led by one point heading into the final ten minutes. The fourth quarter was all Ozark as they outscored the Eagles 22-8, taking thier lead back early and keeping it through the remainder of the game.
Through 40 minutes, the teams saw 10 ties and 10 lead changes, and as a team Faith recorded 10 steals while forcing 17 turnovers. Katie Costello led the Eagles with 16 points, followed by Miriam Beenken with 13 points and 4 blocks. Erica Sovereign provided a huge spark for the Eagles, scoring 13 points on 55% shooting, and adding 3 assists and 3 steals.
