
Eagles Fall in Overtime Thriller
The Eagles were at home this past Saturday as they faced the Ambassadors from Ozark Christian College.
Ankeny, IA - In the Eagles previous meeting with the Ambassadors, they were defeated 103-47, so the Eagles were hoping for an improved performance in their second meeting.
This meeting proved to be much more exciting than the previous one. The 1st half started out back and forth as neither team was able to build a substantial lead. At the 10 minute mark the Eagles took the lead 15-14 with a jumper from Andy Hecker. In the last 10 minutes of the half the Eagles went on a tear and jumped out to a 10 point lead with 2:30 to play. The Eagles went into halftime leading 35-29, scoring almost as many points in the 1st half of this game as they did in the entire game of the previous meeting between the two teams.
In the 2nd half, the Eagles kept their lead over the 1st 7 minutes. WIth 12:30 remaining, the Ambassadors were able to chip away at the Eagles lead and take the lead 46-45 with 12:30 remaining. The lead changed numerous times the rest of the 2nd half with neither team leading by more than 5 in the final 12 minutes. With 2 seconds left and the score tied 72-72, Eagles forward Andy Hecker nearly won the Eagles the game as his half court shot bounced off the side of the rim as the buzzer sounded.
Despite the Eagles valiant effort and turnaround from the previous meeting against the Ambassadors, in overtime, the Eagles ran out of gas and the Ambassadors hung on to win the game 82-78. Andy Hecker led the Eagles in scoring with 20 points off of the bench and Parker Lundberg added 18 points. This loss drops the Eagles to 5-11 (3-5 in MCCC play). The Eagles next game is on Tuesday at home as they take on the Polars from Crown College at 5pm CST.
