Men's Basketball Opens Season with Road Wins
Faith defeated region foe Providence and tournament host FLBC in the Free Lutheran Classic this weekend.
Plymouth, MN - The Eagles kicked off their season this past weekend with a road trip to Plymouth, MN. Faith faced off against Providence University College (Manitoba, Canada) and Free Lutheran Bible College (Plymouth, MN) at the Free Lutheran Classic hosted by FLBC. Faith came out on top in both games to kick off their season at 2-0.
On Friday against Providence, the Eagles started out with a bang as they jumped out to a 9-0 lead. Both teams then settled in as they battled back and forth. The Eagles continued to build their 1st half lead to 18, but the Pilots were not going to roll over. With the help of some transition baskets and offensive putbacks, the Pilots made a run and cut the Eagles' lead to 7. The Eagles went into halftime leading 49-42 with the help of Desmond Conway who scored 15 points.
Halftime reenergized the Eagles as they jumped out to another big lead with the help of the hot 3-point shooting from freshman guard Landon Brahs. While the Pilots star inside duo of Emmanuel Oleko and Riley Paul combined for 36 of their team's 78 points, the Eagles did a great job making their night difficult and made them work for every basket they got. Ultimately, the stout defense and hot shooting from beyond the arc led to the Eagles 1st win of the season defeating the Pilots 93-78.
Landon Brahs led the way off the bench scoring 18 points and Desmond Conway had 15 points. Jared Pearson and Andy Hecker also both added 14 points.
On Saturday, the Eagles were back at FLBC to play the Conquerors from FLBC. The Eagles were hoping to finish the weekend 2-0 and the Conquerors were looking for their 1st win of the season.
The Eagles dominated the 1st half, as they held the Conquerers to only 7 1st-half points. The Conquerors competed hard, but the youth and inexperience of their team showed as they had a difficult time scoring against the Eagles defense. The Eagles did a great job playing team defense and sharing the ball on offense as they scored 40 1st half points and went into halftime leading 40-7.
The 2nd half was much like the 1st half as the Eagles continued their dominance. The Eagles slowed the ball down on offense, yet they still outscored the Conquerors 27-9. The Eagles went on to win the game 67-16 improving their record to 2-0 on the season as all 15 players suited up for the game saw several minutes of action. Andy Hecker led all scorers with 11 points. This win set a new school record for the least amount of points allowed in a varsity contest, topping the previous record which was 22.
The Eagles are back in action on Monday at 6 pm CDT as they travel to York, NE to face the Panthers from York University in an exhibition contest.
