
Eagles Battle in Inaugural Lightwell Trophy Match
(Ankeny, IA) - The Faith and Emmaus women's volleyball programs faced off in the inaugural "Lightwell Trophy" rivalry game, introduced by Lightwell Insurance Advisors.
The Lightwell Trophy is the second traveling trophy introduced between the two Iowa schools, with Men's Basketball competing for the Chaplain's Cup, currently held by Faith.
In an intense five-set battle, Faith fell to Emmaus despite a strong comeback. Emmaus took the first two close sets, 25-20 and 25-23, but Faith responded with dominant performances in the third and fourth sets, winning 25-15 in both. However, Emmaus stormed out to a 9-3 lead in the decisive fifth set and held on for a 15-6 victory, clinching the 3-2 win and taking the Lightwell Trophy back to Dubuque.
Codie Wirges was a standout for Faith, leading the team with 28 kills and 19 digs. Sadie Long and Belle Wirges added 8 and 6 blocks, respectively, while Victoria Nerem and Lainey Murphy provided 24 and 19 assists.
Faith's resilience in pushing the match to five sets showcased their determination, but Emmaus's strong finish secured the win.
