Eagles Make Strides In Loss To Grace Christian
ANKENY, Iowa—The Faith Eagles women's soccer team played its best soccer of the season on Friday, particularly in the final ten minutes of a rematch against Grace Christian. Faith was the aggressor, outshooting Grace 14-3, while making crisp and decisive passes and shooting some of its best shots of the season, nearly missing goals on several occasions. It wasn't enough, however, as the second-ranked Tigers shut out the Eagles' offense for the second day in a row in another 1-0 decision.
It's been that kind of a season for the Eagles, who have lost five games by a total of seven goals. Faith's offense has been shut out six times in ten games. After falling behind at the 25-minute mark of the first half, Faith's defense held its ground for the remaining 65 minutes of the game. The Eagles had a great opportunity to tie the game with less than seven minutes to play on a beautiful kick by Abigail Speichinger, but Grace Christian's goal keeper made a spectacular save to deflect the ball from going into the net.
If the last ten minutes of the Grace Christian game were any indication, the team may be hitting its stride at just the right time offensively as the regular season wraps up this week with a road game against Maranatha Baptist University. Faith will look to rebound on Thursday with a match in Watertown, Wisconsin at 3 p.m. The Eagles defeated Maranatha 1-0 earlier this season.
Regional play begins November 4, and will be hosted by Faith Baptist Bible College at an off-site location in West Des Moines, Iowa.
