Lady Eagles Fall to Crown College in Final Minute
ST. BONIFACIUS, Minnesota—After 89 minutes of scoreless soccer on Tuesday afternoon, the Storm hit.
The Faith Eagles and Crown College Storm squared off in a defensive battle for 89 minutes and four seconds, but in the end, the Eagles were handed their first defeat of the season on a goal with 56 seconds to play.
In a game that featured outstanding defensive play, the Storm capitalized off a fast break opportunity that appeared as ominous as the beginning of a Midwest tornado and ended in equally disastrous fashion. Crown's Trinity Gregory received a beautiful cross pass from Emma Kaiser and found herself in a one-on-one situation with Faith goalie Alexa LaFleur, who made a terrific block on Gregory's initial shot attempt. Unfortunately for the Eagles, that shot deflected off of another Eagle defender into the goal for the game-winning score.
With the loss, the Eagles fell to 1-0-1 on the season. The team travels to Mount Pleasant, Iowa, on Saturday to face Iowa Wesleyan University (1-1) at 1 p.m. The Eagles and Tigers last squared off in 2019 in Ankeny with the Eagles scoring a decisive 10-1 victory.
