ANKENY, Iowa—The Faith Eagles women's soccer team played the first of an important two-game set against Grace Christian University on a chilly Thursday afternoon, but came up empty, losing 1-0 in overtime.
Grace Christian is the number two ranked team in NCAA Women's Division II soccer, sitting with a record of 10-5. Faith hopes to even the series Friday afternoon with another 2 p.m. tilt against the Tigers.
It was an evenly matched game during the first 90 minutes, with both teams struggling to get good shots on goal. Faith managed just three shots on goal in regulation, while Grace managed only five. It was the sixth shot on goal in the first four minutes of overtime that did the Eagles in, with a goal off the leg of Alivia TerMeer.
With the loss, the Eagles fell to 2-6-1 overall. Just two games remain in the regular season. Friday's rematch with Grace Christian will be the final home game of the year on Pyche Field. Faith hosts the women's regionals, but those games will be held at an off-site facility in West Des Moines.
