Eagles Battle for the Chaplain's Cup
(Ankeny, IA) - Faith men's basketball played in the third annual Champlain's Cup game, falling to Emmaus University 103-90.
Tuesday's game promised to be a close one, with both teams entering the day with similar records and similar scores vs common opponents. Faith matched Emmaus' efforts, keeping the first half close and entering halftime down by five, 50-45. The Eagles had an opportunity to tie the game with ten minutes left, but they struggled to counter Emmaus' ability to convert key baskets and control the tempo through the final ten minutes of the game and the Eagles from Dubuque took the 103-90 victory over Faith. After keeping the Chaplain's Cup in Ankeny the past two years, Faith will have to secure the victory in Dubuque next season in order to bring the trophy back home.
Mason Gorsh led Faith with 17 points, while James Busenitz added 13 and Seth Freeman chipped in 14. Freeman and Busenitz each grabbed seven rebounds, with Freeman also recorded 5 steals and a team-high five assists.
Faith is now 9-8 on the year, and 3-3 in the conference.
The Eagles will aim to bounce back with two home games this weekend, facing non-conference opponent Ecclesia College on Friday at 7 p.m. and conference opponent Calvary University on Saturday at 4 p.m.
