Eagles Shooting Woes Too Much to Overcome vs Ambassadors
(Ankeny, IA) - Faith men's basketball played an improved game, but ultimately fell to the reigning MCCC champs.
On Friday night the Eagles stayed home to face the Ambassadors from Ozark Christian College. This was the Eagles 2nd time this season facing the Ambassadors as Faith lost previously 83-55. The Eagles also honored two of their seniors on the team, James Busenitz and Seth Freeman who have been valuable assets both on and off the court for Faith men's basketball over the last 4 years. Senior Andy Hecker was not able to attend due to illness. The Eagles will be honoring him at a home game later in the season.
While the Eagles played better defense in this matchup vs the Ambassadors, they once again struggled to connect on shots, similar to their first matchup. The Ambassadors jumped out to an early first half lead, but Faith responded with a few defensive stops which allowed them to keep the score within striking distance. A three pointer from Asa Lafluer cut the lead to 3 with two minutes left in the first half, and gave the Eagles momentum as they stayed close until halftime, heading into the break down 31-38.
Unfortunately for Faith, the Ambassadors made some important offensive adjustments and jumped out to an early 46-33 lead in the 2nd half. The Eagles tried to respond but could not seem to get anything going on the offensive end. The Ambassadors maintained a double digit lead the rest of the game, and in the end completed the season sweep, defeating the Eagles 75-57.
Seniors Seth Freeman and James Busenitz led the Eagles on the night; Freeman stuffing the stat sheet with 9 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals, while Busenitz added 8 points 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. This loss drops the Eagles to 10-11 on the season (4-4 in MCCC play). The Eagles next contest is on the road against Emmaus University on Monday at 6pm CST.
