Eagles Down Warriors at Home
Eagle’s competed against the Warriors of Union College on Tuesday night in the Nettleton Center.
Ankeny, IA - The Eagles came out in the midweek matchup against the Warriors looking to get themselves ready for Regional play next week. The Eagles continue to ride their defensive prowess, holding the Warriors to just 5 points in the first quarter and 9 points at the half. Still struggling to get the ball to go in the hoop, the Eagles did see some bright spots in Freshman Guard Eliana Fritz going 3-3 from the field in the first half and Junior guard Mikayla Jones knocking down two 3 point attempts in the first half. The Eagles were able to create a 28-9 lead going into halftime.
With execution being the focus of the second half, the Eagles were able to see a lot of good minutes from everyone on the team. The Warriors looked to try and edge their way back into the game against the Eagle reserves, but amongst the Warriors 10-2 run in the fourth quarter, the young Eagles were able to hold strong and complete the 45-34 win.
The Eagles were led by Junior Mikayla Jones with 14 points while Freshman Codie Wirges added 8 points, and Junior Kaitlyn Rodriquez and Freshman Eliana Fritz both added 6 of their own. Fritz also led the way defensively with 7 steals, a new career high.
The Eagles compete in their final home game of the semester against Free Lutheran Bible College on March 1st at 5:00 PM. View the women's schedule here.
