
Eagles Battle Against Top Ranked Conference Opponent
Lady Eagles matched up against the top team in the conference, Ozark Christian College on Saturday, February 3, 2024.
Ankeny, IA - The Eagle's came into the game looking to fight back after a tough loss against the Ambassadors just weeks ago on the road.
The Ambassadors kept it tough, as they quickly got up on the Eagles with three back to back three point shots in the first few minutes to jump out to a 9-4 lead. The Eagles did not back down as they were pushed and ended the quarter on a 5-0 run to tie 14-14 after the first 10 minutes. The second quarter was a different story for the Eagles as Ozark was able to push their lead all the way to 17 points with 2:30 to go in the half. With the same energy from the first quarter, the Eagles were able to trim the lead to just 10 points going into half.
Down by 10 at the half, the Eagles did not back down. Coming out of halftime, the Eagles went on a 9-0 run, propelling them to win the third quarter. The fourth quarter came down to the wire as the Eagles freshman guard Codie Wirges hit a go ahead 3 point basket with just 1 minute to play. The Eagles defense was unable to stop the hot shooting from the Ambassadors, as they finished the last minute of the game on a 6-0 run, able to overcome the Eagles 52-47.
The Eagles were led by their senior captain, Rachel Forgie who had 16 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 blocks. Following Forgie was Codie Wirges with 14 points, Whitney Wacker with 7 points, 9 rebounds, and Mikayla Jones with 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.
