Eagle's Finish 4th in MCCC Tournament

Eagle’s hosted the 2024 Midwest Christian College Conference Basketball Tournament this past weekend February 22nd-24th.

Ankeny, IA - The Lady Eagles came into the conference tournament as the #3 seed set to play their first game against the #6 Emmaus on Thursday, February 22nd.

Looking to get the win after the previous week's loss against Emmaus, the Eagle's came out strong. Dominating the first quarter, the Eagle's got an early lead 13-7. The second quarter was much of the same, as the Eagle's from Faith went into half leading 28-19. Coming out of the half, both teams were looking to create momentum. The third quarter saw the most points in the game, with Faith winning the quarter 18-16 and giving themselves a comfortable lead going into the final 10 minutes. Looking to move on to the semifinals, the Eagle's kept fighting through the fourth quarter and ended the game with the win, 62-48.

This win was a full team effort, with four players scoring in double digits. Leading the Eagle's was senior Rachel Forgie with 18 points and 11 rebounds, followed by Mikayla Jones with 15 points and 5 assists, Codie Wirges with 12 points, 5 steals, and 4 assists, and Whitney Wacker with 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

The Eagle's matched up against the #2 Warriors from Calvary University in game two of the MCCC tournament.

Both teams struggled to find any kind of offense in the first quarter. The Eagle's squeaked out 4 points to the Warriors 10 in the first quarter. Finding a bit of rhythm, the Eagle's gained momentum and took the second quarter 12-7. Going into the half down 16-17, the Eagle's needed to come out swinging. The third quarter was neck and neck as the Eagle's took it 16-15. The fourth quarter the Eagle's found themselves stunted offensively. Only able to pick up 3 points to the Warriors 13, the Eagles lost the semifinal match up 35-45.

Rachel Forgie (16 rebounds) and Whitney Wacker (13 rebounds) dominated the boards for the Eagle's that night.

Playing for third place, the Eagle's matched up against the #4 Saints of Central Christian College of the Bible on Saturday, February 24th.

Playing without senior captain, Rachel Forgie, due to injuries the night before, the Eagle's needed to bring the energy if they were going to compete with the Saints.

Starting in rhythm, the Eagle's found themselves taking the first quarter 15-13. Unable to find any form of offense in the second quarter, the Eagle's lost the second quarter 6-14 and went into the half down 21-27. Motivated by their deficit, the Eagle's game out of the half firing. Scoring 15 to the Saints 9, the Eagle's closed the gap. The fourth quarter was back and forth, but the Eagle's were unable to keep the Saints out of the paint, and lost the game 48-55.

Leading the Eagle's was Mikayla Jones with 19 points, followed by Emma Boldt with 11 points, Codie Wirges with 10 points, and Whitney Wacker noching 10 rebounds for the Eagles.

The Lady Eagles came in 4th place at the Midwest Christian College Conference Tournament.

The Eagle's play their final two home games of the season next week on February 27th at 4:00 PM against Union College and March 1st at 5:00 PM against Free Lutheran Bible College. View the Eagle's schedule here.
