
Eagles Pick Up Second Conference Win
The Lady Eagles went toe to toe against the Barclay Bears in their first game back from Christmas Break.
Ankeny, IA - Looking to pick up the win, the Eagles started the game off quickly. A big first half from Kayla Stephens from behind the arch was clutch in starting the game strong. Getting a 7-0 lead, the Eagle's determined the direction of the game early on. Quick ball movement and finding good team shots propelled the Eagles to a 15-11 lead after the first quarter. Mikayla Jones picked up her 1,000 career point to start off the scoring for the Eagles in the second quarter. The Bears stuck with the Eagles for the first three minutes of the second half, but could not keep up with the Eagle's scoring, putting the Eagles up 37-20 at the half.
Determined to maintain their lead and put together a solid 4 quarters, the Eagles came out of the half energized. Starting with a press, the Bears attempted to get into reach of the Eagles. Emma Boldt found herself multiple fast break layups as the Eagles handled the press by the Bears. The Eagle's were able to maintain their lead and keep the Bears at a distance with a score of 50-39 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
Going into the final 10 minutes of the game, the Eagles did not slow down. Finishing the game off with a final score of 67-49, the Eagles picked up their second conference win.
The Eagle's shared the ball, with four people contributing double digits offensively. Leading the team was Rachel Forgie with 15 points and 15 rebounds, followed by Mikayla Jones with 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists, Tina Harms with 14 points, Emma Boldt with 12 points, and then Kayla Stephens with 9 points on 3-7 from downtown. The Eagles out rebounded the Bears 46 to 26 in order to control the finish.
