2024 Men's Soccer Season Review
(Ankeny, IA) - Faith Men's Soccer closed out the 2024 season looking ahead to a bright future as they had thrilling comebacks, multiple shutouts, and significant improvement from start to finish!
The Eagles entered the 2024 season as a young but determined squad, with almost their entire roster consisting of freshmen and sophomores. With several key All-Conference/All-Region returners and a large mix of talented underclassmen, the Eagles set off with the goal of competing at a high level while emphasizing Christ-honoring character as the center of the program.
The season began with 3 challenging matches, the first against an NCCAA DI opponent, followed immediately with two top 10 ranked Regional teams. The next 6 matches saw the Eagles settle in as they won 3 matches, outscoring their opponents 28-3 and lost 3 matches by one goal each (two of those coming in the final minute of the game).
"It took time to figure out where everyone needed to play and for them learn their roles and responsibilities, but once we got everyone on the same page the team played quality soccer." Shared Coach Backous, "Like most years, it feels like if we could have had another month or two of the season we could have competed with anyone in the NCCAA."
Faith had 5 players recognized for their performance this year. Moses Amani, Parker Lundberg, and Andre Quintana were all named both 1st Team All-Conference and 1st Team All-Region, and Grant Brower and Zachary Choi earned All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. Four Eagles were named Scholar-Athletes for the 2024 season: Grant Brower, Cade Sanders, Grant Busenitz, Eliott Adomeit.
"This season we had a very competitive schedule. The guys were challenged week in and week out and did a good job seeing the big picture and not getting caught up in the highs and lows of the season. It was too bad that we had to play the sixth best team in the country in the conference semifinals and the third best team in the regional semifinals." Coach Backous said in summary of the season. "We are looking forward to developing good training habits in the offseason. We lost some key leaders from this season's team, but I am excited about the returners we have coming back and the recruits who are coming in. With a good offseason and plenty of talent and experience, the guys could have a 2025 season they will never forget."
