Men’s Soccer Advances to Conference Championship Game
ALTOONA, Iowa—Things looked bleak for the Faith men's soccer team at halftime of a semifinal conference tournament match on Friday, but the Eagles regrouped for their tenth win of the season and a trip to the conference finals.
Faith failed to utilize a stiff wind at their backs in the first half of a cold and blustery day, remaining scoreless with Calvary University for the first 45 minutes of the game. The game was forced to an alternate location after Faith's field was too wet from rains the previous two days. Between the turf and the wind, the Eagles struggled to get their offense into rhythm.
Charging into the wind in the second half actually seemed to help the Eagles as it forced them into a shorter passing game, which led to greater ball control and more consistent shots on goal. The first strike of the game came off the foot of Noah Zollinger, who whirled away from a defender and booted a kick into the corner of Calvary's goal for a 1-0 lead. Calvary answered in short fashion, tying the game at 1-1, before Solo Sein hit the eventual game-winner with less than eight minutes to play.
With the win, Faith advanced to the conference tournament championship game on Saturday, October 30, at 12:30 p.m. The game will be held back on Faith's campus and will be played against Manhattan Christian, who defeated Central Christian College of the Bible by the score of 13-0 on Friday afternoon. Faith is 0-2 against the Thunder this season.
