ANKENY, Iowa—A spirited and physical soccer match against Maranatha Baptist University resulted in a 2-1 loss for the Eagles on Saturday as the Sabercats avenged a season-ending loss from a year ago which eliminated them from the postseason.
Maranatha played with a chip on its shoulder and was whistled for 13 fouls in 90 minutes as they played an aggressive brand of soccer throughout the two halves. The Sabercats dominated shots on goal, outshooting the Eagles 13-4.
After a scoreless first half, the two teams each struck for quick goals to start the second half, with Maranatha connecting for the game's first goal at 47:06, and Faith answering on the following possession on a goal from Carson Odle, which was his second of the season.
Joshua Wright scored his second goal of the night for the Sabercats seven minutes later and that proved to be the game-winner as neither team was able to put the ball into the net for the remaining 35 minutes.
It was the second straight loss for the Eagles (4-2), who turn around and head to Watertown on Thursday for a quick rematch. Game time is 4 p.m.
