Men's Soccer Moves to 2-0 After Another Win in OT
LINCOLN, Nebraska--At the rate his men's soccer team is going, Coach Gary Backous is going to need some extra Rolaids. Two games into the season has resulted in two overtimes...and two wins.
The Eagles improved to 2-0 Tuesday night with a 2-1 victory over the Union College Warriors. The defense continues to be spectacular, and the offense continues to be just enough at just the right times. Freshman forward Soelaweh Sein is a budding superstar in NCCAA Division II, scoring both goals for Faith, including his second game-winner in as many games. His abilities on offense are something the Eagles have sorely missed the last few seasons.
After a scoreless first half, Sein got the Eagles on the board first with an unassisted goal at the 66:49 mark. Fifteen minutes later, the Warriors answered with a goal of their own, and that would prove to be the end of the scoring for either team in regulation.
Overtime, when the lights are the brightest, seems to be the time Sein really shines. Five minutes in, he scored his third goal of the season, and the game winner with an assist to James Busenitz. Shots on goal were nearly even between the two squads with Faith recording seven to Union's eight. Sein accounted for 4 of those. Three Eagles played all 96 minutes (Moses Amani, Jared Conable, Jacob Stilwell).
The Eagles are back in action at home on Monday with there first conference match against Central Christian College of the Bible from Moberly, Missouri. The Saints are 1-0, coming off a 4-1 road win over Ozark Christian College. The game is scheduled to kick of at 4:00pm.
