Lady Eagles Defeat Conquerors
The Lady Eagles hosted the AFLBS Lady Conquerors this past weekend during Faith's annual high school basketball tournament. Faith was looking to redeem themselves after their loss to the Lady Conquerors last semester (51-45). The first half was back and forth as both teams shot a high percentage. Freshman Shannon Steffen provided the offensive boost for Faith in the first half, going 2-3 from three point range, and 5-6 on free-throws for a total of 11 first half points. The Lady Eagles were able to take a three point lead into halftime (36-33).
The second half was the same as the first half with both teams battling back and forth. With 13:45 to go in the game the Lady Eagles lead was a slim three point margin (44-41). Faith would dig in though and played tough defense to help increase their lead to as much as twelve throughout the final 13 minutes of the game. Faith controlled the closing minutes of the game and would collect their sixth win of the season with a final score of 73-63.
Laura Garwick would go 5-5 from the field in the second half, as well as 5-6 from the free-throw line for 15 second half points. She would finish the game with 23 points and 12 rebounds for her tenth double-double of the year. Ashley Pearson would have a double-double as well finishing with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Shannon Steffen had 18 points and 6 rebounds. Holly Shepard would score 11 and had 7 steals.
The Lady Eagles will travel to Moberly, MO next for a rematch vs. Central Christian College of the Bible. That game will be Friday night and tip off at 5:30 PM.
