Women's Basketball Season Review
The Faith women's basketball team finished the season with a 7-16 record. Though it was not a winning record, the Lady Eagles played well and showed great signs of improvement this season. Faith played hard every game this season, and was able to do it with only six players second semester. Despite having so few players seven of the Lady Eagles losses were single digits. These close games helped teach valuable lessons that the Lady Eagles plan to build upon next year.
Faith would only win one conference game and one region game during the regular season. The one conference win landed them a four seed in the MCCC conference tournament. They would face the host school Barclay College in the first round. Though the Lady Eagles fought hard Barclay came away with the win. The Lady Eagles did a great job at keeping their testimony during all their games this year, and won the MCCC Sportsmanship Award for the third year in a row. The one region win gave Faith a three seed, and they would once again face the host school Trinity Bible College in the semi-final round of the regional tournament. The Lady Eagles did not have a great start to the game, but played Trinity to within one point in the second half. Trinity would hang on and win the game to advance to the championship game.
With a balanced lineup of three guards and three posts, everyone would see lots of playing time. Sophomore forward Laura Garwick would lead the team in scoring for the second straight year averaging 15.8 points per game. She also set a single game record scoring 41 points in a game. Junior forward Ashley Pearson led the team in rebounding with 11.6 per game, and freshman guard Holly Shepard led in assists with 3.0 per game. Faith would out rebound their opponents by nearly 8 rebounds a game giving them an advantage on the inside. Turnovers proved to be very hurtful for the Lady Eagles this season, and is something that everyone will be working at together to fix for next season.
The Faith women's team are very thankful for all the support they received throughout the season. They did a great job at keeping Christ at the center of everything they do on and off the court. The players are excited about working on their skills, and getting ready to do even better next year.
