Ladies Come Up Short in Season Opener
The Faith Lady Eagles opened up their season on the road vs. Union College with a 60-71 loss this past Tuesday night. The Lady Eagles faced a 2-3 zone the whole night, and were able to have some success against it, but could not slow down the Lady Warriors offence.
The Lady Eagles never had the lead in the game, but trailed closely until the end of the first half. With just under five minutes remaining in the first half the Lady Eagles would not score again until the 15:58 mark in the second half. The nine minute drought dug a tough hole for the Lady Eagles to try and overcome. Faith was down 33-22 at halftime, and came to life in the second half matching their opponents 38 points with 38 as well.
Freshman Shannon Steffen was the team's leading scorer going 8-15 from the field for 20 points in her college debut. Sophomore Laura Garwick recorded a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Junior Ashley Pearson chipped in on the glass with 14 rebounds of her own. Freshman point guard Holly Shepard played the whole game and was close to recording a triple- double having 9 points, 8 assists, and 7 rebounds.
The Lady Eagles have their home opener on Friday night vs. conference opponent Barclay College at 5:30pm.
