Men Take 5th at Conference Tournament

Thursday, October 18th, the Eagles travelled to Manhattan, KS for the MCCC tournament.  They entered the tournament as the fifth seed and were paired up against the forth seeded Barclay College.  Barclay won the first match up 2-1 in a dramatic overtime game in early September.  Faith played the first half against a 25mph wind and was able to keep the game tied at 0-0 until the break.  The second half started with the Eagles creating a couple quick scoring chances but could not capitalize.  Midway through the half Barclay was able to take advantage of a defensive mistake and take a 1-0 lead.  The Eagles continued to press forward trying to get the equalizing goal but good goalkeeping and a failure to create dangerous scoring opportunities in the attacking third of the field kept Faith from finding the back of the net as they fell 1-0 in the opening round.

Faith found themselves facing another comparable opponent in their fifth place match as the paired up with St. Louis Christian College Saturday, October 20th.   St. Louis had taken them to double overtime before the Eagles were able to pull out the sudden death game-winner.  Faith changed formations from 4-4-2 to 4-5-1 in order to create more attacking opportunities down the wings while still keeping a compact center midfield prior to the game.  The changes paid off as the Eagles were able to score three goals in the first fifteen minutes and cruise to a 4-0 halftime lead and a 5-0 final to earn 5th place in the tournament. 

Sophomore Tim Jones earned 2nd Team All-Conference honors and brothers Aaron and Adam Jones were named to the conferences 1st Team.  Faith was also awarded with the conferences Sportsmanship Award.
