In a game that started loud and ended quietly, the Eagle men grabbed their first victory of the season, defeating visiting Central Bible College 2-1 at home this past Friday. Faith is now 1-2 on the year.
Early on the game appeared to be headed for an exciting, high scoring affair, as the Eagles Adam Jones got Faith on the board two minutes in with a well placed shot past the CBC keeper. Not to be outdone, CBC took advantage of Faith's inexperience on the back line, slipping behind the defense to knot the game at 1-1 just one minute later. Two goals in the first three minutes made for what looked to be an exciting, high scoring game, but both teams seemed to shake of the early game jitters after that, as the game settled in to a battle in the midfield. Faith controlled play for much of the game and held an overall shot advantage of 20-9. However, despite the many chances, Faith struggled to finish off well timed attacks. Midway through the first half, another freshman for the Eagles, JJ Parkjurst, put what proved to be the game winner into the back of the net, giving Faith a 2-1 advantage. Despite several chances including several point blank opportunities in front of the CBC net, Faith could not finish off any more chances the rest of the first half or second half, coming away with the 2-1 victory and their first win of the season.
Faith turns around on Saturday, September 8, and opens conference play as they host Barclay College from Haviland, KS. The game will kick off at 1 PM at Pyche Field.
