The Faith men's soccer team struggled in their first weekend of games. Friday, August 31, the Eagles travelled to Coon Rapids, MN to take on region rival and nationally ranked North Central University. One of the areas of concern going into the game was the play of the young and inexperienced defense, but they did a very good job working together to hold out an athletic and talented North Central team. Late in the half North Central got on the scoreboard with a well-timed run behind the defense and just before half they scored again on a cross to the back post.
The Eagles regrouped and played a much more consistent second half, but were still unable to maintain possession long enough to create good scoring opportunities. North Central's constant pressure was able to break the Eagles down two more times to bring the final score to 4-0.
The following day the Eagles travelled across Des Moines to play a phenomenal AIB team. It was evident from the start that AIB was a tremendous team as they created numerous scoring chances from the opening kick-off to the final whistle as the Eagles fell 14-0. AIB's roster consisted of international scholarship players who played at level much higher than the Eagles were prepared for. "The only positive I can take away from the games is that the guys saw what the 'next level' of soccer looks like," said Coach Backous.
Faith hosts a pair of home games this weekend, Friday against Central Bible College and Saturday against Barclay College in the Eagles first conference game
