Eagles Roll in Win Over Lincoln
The Eagle men scored early and often in their home opener this past Saturday, rolling out to a 4-1 halftime lead en route to a 6-1 victory over visiting NAIA opponent Lincoln Christian University. The Eagles completed a 2-0-0 opening weekend which included a rugged win the day before over Providence University College. Faith is now 2-0-0 on the year.
The Eagles jumped on the board 10 minutes into the game when JJ Parkhurst put a rebound into the back of the net to give the Eagles the early 1-0 lead. Ten minutes later the Eagles scored again, this time a Joseph Frerichs unassisted goal to grab the 2-0 lead. Four and a half minutes later it was Parkhurst again off an assist from Tui Hunkin and the rout was on. Lincoln would get one goal back in the half, but Josh Bray pushed the lead back to three two minutes later, giving the Eagles the 4-1 halftime margin. It was all Eagles in the second half, with Tui Hunkin scoring and JJ Parkhurst recording the hat trick with his third goal of the game for the final 6-1 Faith victory. Coach Backous was able to get everyone into the game as the Eagles moved to 2-0-0 on the year.
Faith outshot Lincoln 36-9 on the afternoon. The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday at home against Calvary Bible College at 4:00 PM. That game will kick off an important week for the Eagles as they will face three conference foes in five days. In addition to Calvary, the Eagles will face defending Conference champion Manhattan Christian College on Friday at 4 PM, and Conference runner up Barclay College on Saturday at 1 PM. Barclay defeated Manhattan 3-0 this past week.
Both games features promotions by the Athletic Department. Friday's game with Manhattan will be local church night, with admission just $1 for those presenting a church bulletin or mentioning the promotion at the gate. Saturday is Homecoming for the Eagles.
