The Faith men's soccer team traveled to Lincoln, IL to take on NAIA opponent Lincoln Christian University (LCU). Faith was able to win by a final of 4-1 to sweep the season series. The win improves the Eagles record to 7-3-1 as they go into the final three games of the regular season next week.
The Eagles managed to outshoot the Red Lions 22-2 in the first half but only came away with two goals. The first one came in the 26th minute as Joseph Frerichs carried the ball deep into LCU's defense and then laid off the ball for Josh Bray to put in. Thirty seconds later the Eagles scored again, this time off a series of great passes that ended with Tui Hunkin scoring off an assist from Aaron Jones.
The second half was similar to the first as the Eagles dominated in shots and possession but were only able to score twice on back to back goals in the 66th minute. Frerichs was again able to find Bray for his second of the game and sixth of the year. Immediately after the ensuing kickoff the Eagles won the ball and Frerichs again found Bray open in the box, but Bray unselfishly laid it off to Hunkin for his second of the game and team leading ninth of the year.
Faith continued to work hard but the determined Red Lions were able to find the back of the net off a well placed shot with just a few minutes remaining. Faith ended up out shooting LCU 36-4 and coming away with the 4-1 victory. Their next match is at Emmaus Bible College in Dubuque, IA Tuesday, October 14th at 3:30pm.
