Men's Soccer Earns First Conference Win in 4-3 Victory
The Eagle men defeated visiting Central Christian College of the Bible 4-3 Tuesday evening to earn their first Midwest Christian College Conference win. The Eagles are 1-1-1 in the Conference, and are 4-1-1 overall on the year.
Central Christian came out as the agressor during the first 15 minutes of the match. The affect of two double overtime games two days before could be seen on the Eagles side, as Faith started sluggishly. Faith was able to right the ship, as Aaron Jones knocked a shot off the post which Josh Bray headed in for the 1-0 Faith lead. Faith was able to create several more scoring chances in the half, but was unable to convert, leading by one at the break. Faith out shot CCCB 11-3 in the half.
The Eagles came out quickly to start the second half, scoring goals two and eight minutes into the half to lead 3-0. The first goal of the half was earned by Joseph Frerichs off a Josh Bray assist, while Tui Hunking scored from 30 yards out six minutes later unassisted. Faith looked in control, but CCCB quickly responded with a nice one touch shot off a cross to get on the board.
Eleven minutes later, it was Aaron Jones curling a shot past the keeper to push the lead back to three. Faith controlled the game for the next 16 minutes, and with the comfortable lead, the Eagles began to give players some rest. However, the Eagles became a little to comfortable, as CCCB took advantage of a direct kick just outside the box to put a well placed shot into the upper 90 and pull within two. Nine minutes later, with just 30 seconds to play, CCCB got the ball into the box again and after several attempts to clear the ball out by the Eagles, converted the misplayed ball into a third goal for the final 4-3 score.
Faith outshot CCCB 21-7 for the game. The Saints were only able to put four for those seven shots on frame, but scored on all but one of the four. Faith had nine shots on goal, converting on four of the nine.
The Eagles hit the road this Friday for another Conference game at St. Louis Christian College in St. Louis, MO. That game will kick off at 4 PM.
