Hunkin Signs With Eagles
Ankeny, IA. — Faith Baptist Bible College head men's soccer coach Gary Backous on Monday announced the signing of Tui Hunkin for the 2014 season. Hunkin joins Joseph Frerichs as part of the Eagles' 2014 recruiting class.
Tui is the son of the Reverend Uele M. and Susan Hunkin. Tui was homeschooled, but played for WDMSC, Valley High School, and Indianola High School during his high school years. His Senior Year at Valley he lettered and made All State First Team and All Conference Second Team.
In addition to his high school participation, Tui has extensive experience in club soccer. He played club soccer in Seattle, WA; played for the Des Moines Menace Academy; two years at the Brazilian Futsal Academy; and played for the WDMSC (West Des Moines Soccer Club) which was coached by Drake University's Head Men's Soccer Coach, Sean Holmes.
This past year Tui tried out and trained with the Seattle Sounders U23 team, the Crossfire U23 team, and the Des Moines Menace PDL.
Tui's honors include being a starter for Iowa State ODP (Olympic Development Team) in 2010, 2011, and 2012; a member of the ODP Region2 Team the National ESPN/Disney ODP Showcase Tournament in 2010; and a member of the ODP Region2 Soccer Team who traveled to Costa Rica in 2011 and played an international tournament. His WDMSC team was the Iowa State Cup Champions in 2010, 2011, and 2012.
Tui had the privilege to coach U12Boys at the Barcelona Soccer Camps in Seattle, WA in 2012 and has been active in soccer camps with Drake University. Tui has worked construction for the past ten years so helps Habitat for Humanity & Hope with Rock the Block in Des Moines. He teaches VBS children at church and plays guitar & sings at church when scheduled.
