Jones and Anderson Qualify for Nationals at Viking Invitational
ANKENY, Iowa--God provided a beautiful day for running on Saturday as the Eagle XC team competed in the Grand View Viking Invitational. The event was held on DMACC's Ankeny campus, and the team was thankful for the many fans that came to cheer them on!
The women's race was first, with this being the first 5k of the season (the previous races had been a 4K or 6k distance). It was exciting to see both Laney Jones and Emily Anderson finish with times that qualified them to compete in the NCCAA National Meet in November! Laney came in first with a time of 22:46, and Emily was next with a time of 24:30. Rachel Franklin was close behind with a time of 26:58. In just 2 weeks, Rachel cut over 4 minutes off her 5k time.
The men were up next, with Josiah Brown and Ethan Wooten running together for the entire race. Unfortunately Dawson Woolett got a hip injury on Thursday that will likely take him out for the rest of the season. Ethan was a few seconds ahead of Josiah for most of the race, but in the last sprint to the finish, Josiah pulled ahead. Josiah's time of 30:45 and Ethan's time of 30:50 had them averaging 6:11 per mile for the 5 mile race.
The team has been working hard, and are looking forward to next week's race at Wartburg College.
