STORM LAKE, Iowa—The last time the Eagles and Beavers of Buena Vista University squared off on the soccer field, BVU dominated by a score of 4-1. That was August 25, and was considered a scrimmage. This time, the rematch was a real game, and, despite a 1-0 loss, the Eagles showed just how much they have improved since that first scrimmage.
Faith did a fantastic job of attacking the goal in the loss, squaring up 12 shots on goal, compared to 15 for BVU. They just couldn't get one to go in. The Beavers got their only goal of the game in the first half off an unfortunate ricochet at the net.
With the loss, the Eagles fell to 2-5. Faith needs one more victory to be eligible for postseason regional play. They have a pair of extremely challenging road matches in the state of Michigan on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the Eagles square off at noon against the top-ranked team in the nation and the defending national champions, the Great Lakes Christian College Crusaders. On Saturday, Faith makes its way to the western part of Michigan to face Grace Christian University at 11 a.m. Grace Christian is ranked number four in the nation, so the Eagles will have a great idea where they stand nationally after the upcoming road trip.
