KANSAS CITY, Missouri—A sense of urgency sparked the Eagles to a five-goal outburst in the second half against Spurgeon College on Thursday, locking down the first win of the year for the Faith Eagles women's soccer team.
A sluggish first half led to a scoreless tie through the first 45 minutes of action. In danger of beginning the season with a 0-5 record, the offense came to life in the second half.
Demi DelPrior broke the ice early in the second frame with a goal at the 46:30 mark. From there, the floodgates were opened, with two goals by Abigail Speichinger and two by Kristin Yuan in a span of 25 minutes for the Eagles. Faith gave up a late score to the Knights to make it 5-1, but the Eagles now have two things they've lacked all season: momentum and confidence.
The Eagles hope to build off their momentum on Saturday with a home match against Manhattan Christian College at 11 a.m. in Ankeny. Manhattan (0-1) lost to the same Spurgeon team that Faith just defeated by the score of 4-1. All four of Faith's losses have come against ranked opponents.
