Jones Breaks School Record; Yuan Qualifies for Nationals
INDIANOLA, Iowa—Laney Jones broke the school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase and Kristin Yuan qualified for the NCCAA National Championships in the 400-meter hurdles as the Faith Eagles excelled at the Kip Janvrin Invitational.
Jones broke the old record set by Wendy Busenitz in 2016 with a time of 13:56, which was six seconds better than Busenitz's mark.
Kristin Yuan ran the 400-meter hurdles for the first time, and she rounded the track in 75.39 seconds for a 10th place finish in the event, which was strong enough to qualify the NCCAA National Meet on May 13 and 14.
Tyler Carson ran another fine race in the 110-meter hurdles winning his heat and setting a new PR of 15.2 seconds. He placed third in a very strong field that featured athletes from NCAA Division I schools such as UNI and South Dakota State University.
Coach Ryan Long was thrilled with his team's performance:
"The Kip Janvrin Invitational draws athletes from several NCAA Division I schools because of the close proximity to the Drake Relays meet that runs the same weekend. It is always fun to watch some excellent competitions with these accomplished athletes! The whole team competed well and we are looking forward to our final regular season meet on Saturday at William Penn University in Oskaloosa."
