Bad Weather Doesn’t Inhibit Eagles at Grand View Invitational
DES MOINES, Iowa—Miserable weather conditions didn't stop the Eagles from improving in multiple areas of results in track and field on Saturday.
Running and throwing for the second time at Grand View University this season, Coach Ryan Long was pleased with his team's results. "Great work across the board for a wet, cold, and windy day," said Coach Long.
In throwing events, Sierra Udd improved her shotput (10.16m) to within a meter of National qualifying distance and set a new PR in the discus by over 3 meters. Kyla Rounds set new PRs in both the discus and shotput. The windy conditions made the javelin throw especially difficult, but Jared Ball finished in seventh place with a hurl of 36.43m.
In the short distance running events, Kristin Yuan dropped under 30 seconds for the 200, despite an injured knee. Jeremy Kamberger dropped a full second off his 200 time for a new PR, and Tyler Carson finished third in the 110 hurdles defeating several tough competitors.
In the long distance events, Laney Jones competed in the steeplechase for the first time, setting a solid mark even with the wind and cold conditions, while Emily Anderson set a new PR in the 800 with a time of 2:51.17.
The Eagles return to action on Friday, April 16, at 10 a.m. at the William Penn Invitational in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
