Ankeny, IA – Mercedez "Sadie" Long, of Polk County, IA, has committed to the Eagle women's volleyball and track and field program, signing her letters of intent this past Sunday for the 2021-2022 season.
Sadie is the daughter of Ryan and Ellen Long and comes to the Eagle's from the North Polk Comets. Long high jumped for coaches Scott Huether and Sybbie Sears and played volleyball for coaches Matt Overton and Steve Baas. In volleyball, Sadie was a three year letter winner, a recipient of the IGHSAU Distinguished Academic Achievement Award, and a Raccoon River Academic All-Conference recipient. In track, Sadie was a four year varsity letter winner, and IHGSAU Distinguished Academic Achievement recipient, and a two year state qualifier in high jump. Long was also the recipient of the DMACC President's List.
When asked about her decision to attend Faith, Sadie said "I am most looking forward to the atmosphere. I'm excited to live in the dorms and make new friends!"
"Sadie will provide us additional blocking defense along with efficient right side play. She has gained quality volleyball experience while playing at North Polk High School. We look forward to utilizing Sadie's versatility with front row positions in both 6-2 or 5-1 offenses," noted Eagles head volleyball coach Lanny Nihart.
Head track and field Coach Ryan Long is excited to coach his daughter. "Since I am her father, it has been fun for me to be able to watch Sadie compete in various track & field events throughout high school. She is a tough competitor, and I am excited to have the opportunity to be her coach as she moves up to the college level! Love you Sadie!"
Sadie will be pursuing a degree in Organizational Leadership with an Office Administration minor while at Faith.
