Eagles Perform Well at Grand View Viking Relays
DES MOINES, Iowa--The men's and women's track and field teams competed for the first time in two seasons last weekend at the Grand View Viking Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
Last season's track schedule was canceled due to the coronavirus, so Coach Ryan Long and his crew of runners and throwers were eager to get back into the swing of competition this spring.
Newcomer Jared Ball made things exciting early in the meet with a javelin throw of 39.29m, nearly qualifying for the national meet with his first throws of the season. He finished in eighth place. Sierra Udd and Kyla Rounds threw for the women's team and Udd finished in 14th place with a discus throw of 33.31m.
Tyler Carson gave the Eagles a great performance in the men's first race of the year with a 110 hurdles time of 15.97 seconds, good for a fifth place finish, and good enough to qualify for the National Meet in May. Jeremy Kamberger ran the 200m in a time of 29.85, while Ethan Wooten placed 24th in the 1500m with a time of 4:31.68.
For the women, Emily Anderson, Laney Jones (pictured), and Kristin Yuan had fine performances in their first races of the season. Anderson finished 18th in the 800m with a time of 2:51.53, while Laney Jones finished 24th in the 1500m with a time of 5:57.52. Kristin Yuan competed well in the 200m with a time of 30.22 and in the 400m with a time of 1:07.04.
The Eagles are back in action Thursday and Friday, April 1 and 2 at the Central Invitational in Pella, Iowa.
