KANSAS CITY, Missouri—James Busenitz scored two goals in a 3-1 Midwest Christian College Conference semifinal tournament win over Emmaus, and the Faith Eagles are one win away from making school history as they seek their first ever men's soccer conference tournament title.
Busenitz got the Eagles on the board first with a goal at the 16:25 mark in the first half. Emmaus made things interesting with a goal of their own 17 minutes later to tie the game at one. The score remained 1-1 at halftime.
In the second half, Joshua Forgie gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead with a goal at the 54:31 mark. Faith kept up the pressure on offense, not letting their foot off the accelerator, and it paid off with Busenitz's second goal of the day with 26 minutes to play. Faith's stonewall defense did its job the rest of the way, only allowing Emmaus a total of three shots on goal through 90 minutes of action.
The Eagles will face Manhattan Christian College in the championship game on Friday, October 28, at 1:30 p.m. This will be the third time the Eagles and Thunder have faced each other. Faith won the first match, 2-1. Manhattan won the second match, 2-1. Friday's rubber match will be for all the marbles.
