LINCOLN, Nebraska—The Faith Eagles men's soccer team is a freight train rolling down the tracks at full speed right now. It seems like nothing can stop them.
To say it's been a good stretch for the team is an understatement. Last week, the Eagles knocked off a top ten opponent. On Monday, Joshua Forgie was named the Offensive Player of the Week for NCCAA Division II. On Tuesday, Faith picked up three votes in the Coaches Poll, ranked just outside the top ten of a loaded men's field, and then rolled to its fifth straight win with a 4-0 victory at Union College. It's been a good week.
After a slow start against Union, Samuel Roman scored his first collegiate goal at the 23:08 mark to put the Eagles ahead 1-0. James Busenitz answered two minutes later to make it 2-0. The Eagles cushioned their lead in the second half with goals by Seth Elliott and another by Busenitz who has five goals to co-lead the team in scoring along with Joshua Forgie.
Faith's next game is this coming Friday with a home match against Spurgeon College. Spurgeon (2-3) has been up and down this season, beating Ozark Christian College and Calvary University in convincing fashion, while losing to Barclay (who the Eagles beat last week) 5-0, and Manhattan Christian College, 2-1. Game time is 4:30 p.m. at Pyche Field.
