ANKENY, Iowa—The Faith Eagles men's soccer team defeated a tough Emmaus squad on Saturday, pushing their record to 7-4-2 overall, and finishing with a lofty 4-1 conference record. Now the Eagles aim their sights on the next goal: a conference tournament championship.
Faith struck first with a goal from Cade Sanders, the first of his collegiate career, at the 12:09 mark in the first half. It was all the scoring that would be done by either team in the first half as Faith's defense held serve against their Eagle counterparts.
Faith jumped to a 2-0 lead when Joshua Forgie booted his team-leading sixth goal of the year into the net. It would prove to be the game-winner as Faith surrendered a late goal with less than a minute remaining to make the final score 2-1. The final stat lines proved a worthy duel as Emmaus posted 12 shots (6 on goal), while Faith posted 13 shots (5 on goal).
The Eagles pack their bags for the conference tournament this week as the team aims for a tournament title. Faith's semifinal opponent is a familiar foe: Emmaus. The game will be played at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 27, in Kansas City, Missouri. If the Eagles advance, the title game would be played on Friday, October 28, at 1:30 p.m. against the winner of Manhattan Christian College and Barclay.
