ST. BONIFACIUS, MN—The Faith Eagles men's soccer team struggled to generate offense in its season-opener on Thursday, falling 3-0 to the Providence University Pilots.
Providence dominated possession of the ball, outshooting the Eagles 26-1. Providence scored its first goal less than three minutes into the contest, and two more late in the first half to take a 3-0 lead. Faith's defense held serve the final 45 minutes, but the offense was unable to provide a counterpunch.
The Eagles got some great experience against what will likely be one of their tougher opponents this season. All-Conference forward James Busenitz was not able to play due to injury, so the Eagles were not at full strength.
Faith's has a week to prepare for its next opponents. The Eagles play games on back-to-back days next Friday and Saturday with road contests at Ozark Christian on Friday and at Calvary University on Saturday.
