Goals Galore in Eagles Win over Maranatha
On a hot afternoon that saw the temperature reach the upper 90's, the Eagle's offense was equally hot, finding the upper 90 multiple times in their win over Maranatha.
Ankeny, IA - The Eagles offense scored early and often Saturday, as they defeated visiting Maranatha Baptist University 5-0. The freshman duo of Eliana Fritz and Emma Boldt sparked the Eagle offense, as they accounted for four of the five Faith goals.
Fritz got the Eagles rolling early, as she found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal in the seventh minute. Five minutes later, Eliana struck again, pushing the ball past the MBU keeper to give Faith an early 2-0 lead. Emma Boldt widened the margin in the 29th minute, as a well-placed shot slid past the Sabercat keeper to give Faith a 3-0 lead, which they carried into the break.
Boldt started the second half like she ended the first, scoring her second goal of the match in the 50th minute and increasing the Faith lead to 4-0 off an assist by Demi Del Prior. Returning captain Brenna Penrod finished off the rout in the 78th minute with her first goal of the season for the final 5-0 margin. Both keepers played for the Eagles, as Abby Farver and Kyla Rounds earned a combined clean sweep for Faith. Rounds and Farver turned aside the three shots the Sabercats managed to put on frame during the match. Faith outshot Maranatha 19-5 overall.
The Eagles return to action on Monday, September 4, when they will travel to Carlinville, IL for a match with Blackburn College. That game will kick off at 2 PM.
