Women's Soccer Season Preview
The Eagles start their 2023 season at home, on Thursday, August 31, 2023, with a matchup against Providence University.
Ankeny, IA-- A great mix of returning experience and talented newcomers has the Eagles women's soccer team entering the season with high hopes for another trip to the NCCAA National Tournament in November.
The Eagles return 12 players from last year's team which reached the regional semifinal match, and head coach Zack Barron is excited to watch the leadership of captains Brenna Penrod, Sara Tolosa, and Evelyn Holbert grow as the season progresses. The coaching staff is also excited to "see the girls grow in their love for Christ and understanding of what it means to be a great teammate."
Emma Boldt, Naomi Clark, Eliana Fritz, and Renee Waldrop are all freshmen who are going to make an immediate impact for the team. The Eagles will need to bond quickly, creating good chemistry as they start the season against a couple of tough competitors.
With a total of 15 regular season games, the Eagles will start at home against defending national champion Providence University College (8/31) and rival Maranatha Baptist University (9/2). "It will take some time to grow in understanding, stability, and consistency," noted Coach Zack. "We want to strive together--this looks like playing with unity and fluidity, not a bunch of individuals playing for themselves."
The theme for the Eagles this season is Striving Together. "We strive for excellence as we pursue our purpose of glorifying God, letting the results take care of themselves," said Coach Zack Barron. "We want our players to play with joy and freedom, knowing that their identity and worth is in Christ, not in winning or losing."
