Eagles Fall to Kansas Christian in Top 10 Showdown
ANKENY, Iowa—The Faith Eagles entered the week with a shiny new ranking in the NCCAA Division II polls as the number ten team in the country on Tuesday, but the fuzzy feelings didn't last long as third-ranked Kansas Christian rolled into town and torched the Eagles for 101 points in a 101-73 letdown.
Faith's only lead came on the first basket of the game—a Christian Brown jump shot 16 seconds in. The rest was all Kansas Christian as they jumped to a ten-point lead midway through the first half and never looked back. The Eagles trailed 44-26 at halftime, shooting a dismal 35.5% from the floor, while allowing the Falcons to get to the rim at will.
The second half was much better offensively for the Eagles, but the defense surrendered 57 points in twenty minutes as Kansas Christian showed why they are ranked in the top five. Just three players scored in double figures for Faith, led by Jayce Goergen with 16 points, and Noah Boyer and Carson Odle with 11 each. Boyer also led the team in rebounding with 9, and ranks in the top ten nationally in that category, averaging 8.4 rebounds per game.
Faith (7-9) plays just once this weekend with a Friday night home game at 8 p.m. against Free Lutheran Bible College (2-3) in the Nettleton Center.
