Men Advance to Conference Semi-Final
The Eagle men advanced to the MCCC Tournament semi-final with an 88-72 win over Calvary Bible College Thursday night. The Eagles entered the tournament as the #2 seed, and will now face #3 Ozark Christian at 4:00 PM on Friday. The winner advances to the tournament championship at 5:00 PM on Saturday. Faith improves to 15-8 with the win.
Calvary scored the first basket of the game, but the Eagles quickly responded with a 7-0 run to take the early lead. Faith would never trail in the game again, but couldn't pull away from a scrappy Calvary squad, leading by seven at the break. Calvary looked to make a game of it out of the break, scoring five unanswered to pull within two, but Faith responded with their own 8-0 run to lead by 10. Calvary would pull within nine once more, but that is as close as they would get, as the Eagles stretched the lead to as much as 22 as everyone saw action. "Calvary always competes. Coach Mickelson gets his guys to play hard, and I have a ton of respect for he and his team. I'm proud of the way our guys fought in the second half to earn the win," noted coach Fincham.
Aaron Leistikow led the Eagles with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Cody Chaffin added 18, while Timothy O'Tool added 12 along with 10 rebounds. Jordan Marshall had six assists, while Jon Luke Talton grabbed three steals. John Acree provided a nice spark off the bench, scoring 14 points.
