Shorthanded Men Seal Conference Runner Up with Win
The Eagle men finished out their home regular season schedule with a win over visiting Calvary Bible College. The Eagles were shorthanded, as starting point guard Jordan Marshall and sixth man Eric Young were unavailable to play, but some solid play off the bench and a big game by Jon Luke Talton alowed the Eagles to secure the win and a runner up finish in their second year back in the Midwest Christian College Conference. Faith finished the regular season 6-2 in the conference, and is now 14-7 on the year.
The Eagles jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead, eventually stretching the lead to 16 with six minutes left in the first half. Calvary did not go away, though, as they finished the half with a 16-8 run to pull within eight at the half. Calvary continued that run to open the second half, opening with a 9-2 run to pull within three. Faith responded with an 8-0 run to go back up by 11, and then maintained the lead for much of the half. With six and a half to play, the Eagles led by 14, but Calvary continued to play hard. Calvary used an 11-2 run over the next three minutes to pull within five, but that was as close as they would get, as the Eagles closed the game out with a 7-0 run for the final 76-66 victory. "After an emotional, hard fought victory last night, we got a good boost from our bench today, and Jon Luke really stepped up. It was nice to see the contributions from everyone, especially being shorthanded," noted coach Fincham.
Talton finished the game with a double double, scoring 28 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. Aaron Leistikow just keeps racking up double doubles, as he scored 15 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. Leistikow and Talton finished with four assists each, while Cody Chaffin and Talton led the team in steals with three each.
Faith finishes up their regular season of play with a road to trip to 8th ranked Grace University, in Omaha, NE, on Tuesday. That game will tip off at 7 PM. The Eagles will open conference tournament play at Central Christian College of the Bible (Moberly, MO) next Thursday. Faith will be the #2 seed, and will face Calvary Bible in the quarterfinal. Game times will be announced on Monday.
