Eagles Finish Weekend Sweep
The Eagle men earned their second win in as many days with a come from behind victory over Central Christian College of the Bible (CCCB). Faith is now 7-6 on the year and moves to 3-1 in the conference with the win.
In what was one of their most difficult offensive performances, the Eagles struggled throughout the entire game to finish high percentage shots, resulting in a 31-35 first half deficit. Despite the offensive struggles, the Eagles defense, especially during the latter stages of the first half, kept the game close. The trend continued for the second half, as CCCB maintained their lead for the first 11 minutes of the second half. With nine minutes to play, the Eagles John Acree gave Faith their first lead at 49-48 off of two free throws. Acree's freethrows sparked a 10-0 run by the Eagles over the next two minutes, and Acress scored six of those ten as Faith took a 57-48 lead. CCCB would pull within four on four seperate occasions over the next four minutes, trailing 58-62 with two minutes left. Faith would then lock down defensively, holding the Saints scoreless over the final two minutes to record the 70-58 victory. "This weekend was a total team effort. In both games we received great contributions from every guy. It's something we've been focusing on coming out of break, and I thought the men did a great job of staying poised and working together to earn the victories," noted coach Fincham.
The Eagles suffered through their worst offensive performance of the year, shooting just 37% on the night, and 25% from behind the arc. The Eagles defense was key, though, as they held CCCB to just 35% and 14% from behind the arc. Faith forced 17 Saints turnovers while suffering just 10 of their own.
Jon Luke Talton led the Eagles with 16 points. Aaron Leistikow added another double double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Timothy O'Tool added 11 points, while Acree scored 10 off the bench. Jordan Marshall handed out three assists, and Cody Chaffin grabbed three steals.
Faith next travels to Calvary Bible College (Belton, MO), on Saturday, January 25th to take on the host Warriors. That game will tip at 4:00 PM.
