Eagles Prepare for a Busy Week on the Road
ANKENY, Iowa—An exhilarating first-set win against Calvary did not provide enough momentum for the Faith Eagles volleyball team Friday night, as they fell to the Warriors, three sets to one. Now, they enter a brutal stretch of road games throughout most of the rest of October.
Set One
The Eagles and Warriors volleyed back and forth throughout the first set. Faith held a late lead at 22-18 and appeared in control until the Warriors struck for six straight points and were one point away from the set win. A kill by Alicia Smith and an error by the Warriors tied it at 24 each. After a 27-27 tie, Bekah Smith delivered two consecutive kills to win the set for the Eagles.
Set Two
A consistent dose of service aces and kills by the Warriors put the Eagles into a hole they could never recover from in set two. Calvary built a 20-7 lead, and never looked back, winning the set 25-12.
Set Three
Calvary used its momentum from set two to jump to a 5-1 lead in set three. A pair of spirited rallies by the Eagles brought them to within a point (18-17), but Calvary finished the set with four kills in their final seven points to win, 25-18.
Set Four
The Eagles showed great heart and effort in the fourth set, jumping to a commanding 15-5 lead. Then, the wheels fell off. Seven kills by the Warriors brought them all the way back to within four at 19-15. The combination of Leah Grady and Anna Holloway sealed the match win for the Warriors, as they accounted for five more kills down the stretch to defeat the Eagles, 25-23.
Notable Performances
Faith was led by Bekah Smith with 14 points overall (13 kills) and Alicia Smith with 12 points off of 12 kills. Alicia also had 25 digs.
