More Records Fall at the Dick Young Classic
(Grinnell, IA) - Faith Track & Field added on to their highlight reel-worthy season over the weekend as five more program records fell and a sixth was tied.
The Eagles kicked off the meet with a trio of program records coming from Katie Costello (shot put), Cade Cooper (long jump), and Hannah Wernli (100m hurdles). With her 100m hurdles time of 17.19, Wernli also reached the qualifying time for Nationals and became the fourth Eagle this season to qualify. Codie Wirges broke her personal and program record for triple jump in her first jump of the day, reaching 9.99m, and earning a top 15 spot in the NCCAA (Division I and II combined) in the event.
Becca Hulinsky, Lydia Mueller, and Daniel Gums all competed in the Steeplechase for the first time this season, and Hulinsky walked away with another program record of 13:54.02. Later in the day, Carlie Blevins tied the program record in the 800m run with a time of 2:28.04. As a team, the Eagles saw 10 PR's across the board (not including first time events).
Adding to her accolades on the day, Hannah Wernli won the long jump event, placing first out of eight competitors. This marked the third event win of the season for the team as they continue to compete well against all NCAA/NAIA competition. As the outdoor season winds down, the Eagles will have two more opportunities to qualify for Nationals in their individual events.
