Eagles Extend Streak to Six
Faith defeated Union College on Tuesday night, earning their 6th consecutive victory.
Ankeny, IA - On Tuesday, the Eagles were at home again as they hosted the Warriors from Union College. In their previous meeting this season, the Eagles defeated the Warriors, in Lincoln, 5-1 so the Warriors were looking for a second chance.
The Warriors jumped out to a hot start and surprised the Eagles with a high press. The Warriors forced the Eagles into some turnovers and had a few good chances to score. Being the more experienced team, the Eagles weathered the storm and responded in the 3rd minute with a goal of their own from forward Parker Lundberg (unassisted). Then in the 27th minute, the Eagles pushed the lead to 2-0 with a tap-in goal from forward Chris Barnette (assisted by forward Josh Forgie). At halftime, the score favored the Eagles 2-0.
The 2nd half was much like the 1st, only more dominant for the Eagles. When the Warriors star forward Jeremy Matando went down with an injury, their squad never looked the same. The Eagles completely controlled possession in the 2nd half. In the 60th minute, forward Josh Forgie (assisted by midfielder Grant Busenitz) placed a beautiful bended ball in goal just around the keeper from about 25 yards out. Forward David Garcia got in on the action as he scored his 1st goal of the season in the 75th minute (assisted by midfielder Grant Busenitz) putting the game out of reach for the Warriors. The final buzzer sounded as the Eagles defeated the Warriors for the 2nd time this season with a final score of 4-0.
This victory extends the Eagles' win streak to 6 games with an overall record of 6-1-1 (3-0 in MCC play). The Eagles are back in action on Friday for Senior Night as they host the Wolfpack from Oak Hills Christian College at 4:00pm CDT and again on Saturday as they host the Thunder from Manhattan Christian College at 12:15pm CDT.
