Eagles Remain Undefeated in Conference Play
Faith stretched their conference win streak to three on Tuesday with a win over Emmaus Bible College.
Ankeny, IA - On Tuesday, the Eagles were supposed to go on the road to face the Eagles from Emmaus Bible College. God had different plans. A pending thunderstorm in the forecast for Dabuque forced EBC to travel to Ankeny for a 2:30pm CDT home game for the Eagles.
The 1st half proved to be very exciting as it contained all of the game's goals. In the 7th minute, midfielder Grant Busenitz scored off of a beautiful cross from captain James Busenitz. Busenitz's first shot was deflected back to him from EBC's goalie and Busenitz was able to put it in the back of the net on the 2nd attempt. Emmaus responded quickly with a lasered free kick from 25 yards out in the 12th minute by midfielder Bennett Kreiner. The Eagles responded when forward Chris Barnette scored a goal, assisted off of a beautiful through ball from midfielder Grant Busenitz, in the 28th minute. The Eagles had a few more chances but could not convert and the Eagles went into halftime leading 2-1.
The 2nd half was just as exciting, except for neither team could seem to put the ball in the back of the net. The Eagles had tons of chances that they just could not finish. EBC did not have as many chances, but did have a free kick bounce off the crossbar that would have tied the game. Nonetheless, the Eagles were able to hold on to win the match 2-1. Faith outshot Emmaus 19-9 and put twice as many shots on frame (8) as the visitors. With this victory, the Eagles continue their 4 game winning streak, including 3 in a row in conference and improve to 4-1-1 on the season (3-0 in MCC play).
The Eagles next contest is at 4:30pm CDT this Friday at home against the Knights from Spurgeon College.
