Eagles Overcome Warriors, Earn First Season Win
The Eagles traveled to Lincoln, NE Monday for a road contest against Union College
Ankeny, IA - On Monday, the Eagles went on the road to face the Warriors from Union College. The weather was perfect for a gameday and so was the result for the Eagles.
With such a quick turnaround and having only one day off from their previous game, the Eagles got off to a sluggish start. The Eagles were able to score in the 8th minute as forward Joshua Forgie ripped a shot into the top corner of the goal (assisted by Parker Lundberg). That was the only bright spot for the Eagles in the 1st half. The Warriors responded with a goal of their own right before the 1st half-buzzer sounded.
Thankfully for the Eagles, there was a 2nd half. The Eagles took full advantage as they brought it to the Warriors applying much more pressure on defense and being more patient on offense. Just two minutes into the 2nd half, midfielder Grant Busneitz scored his 2nd goal of the season (assisted by Joshua Forgie). One minute later, forward Joshua Forgie scored his 2nd goal of the game (assisted by Chris Barnette). In the 58th minute, forward Chris Barnette scored his 1st goal of the season (assisted by James Busenitz). In the 74th minute, midfielder James Busenitz scored a goal of his own putting the score at 5-1. The Warriors had no answer for the Eagles onslaught of goals as they were held scoreless in the 2nd half.
Because of the stellar play of the front line and a strong 2nd half response from the defense, the Eagles proved that they were too much to handle as they defeated the Warriors 5-1, improving the record to 1-1-1.
The Eagles are on the road again this Saturday at 1 pm CDT as they face their out-of-state conference rivals, Manhattan Christian College Thunder.
